many people are making these and showing them on you tube but few if any give you any information on how to have success. I will try to explain how these work and what it takes for success. first know these devices must be tuned, its a balancing act between all components. your generator/alternator must be two or three times larger than the drive motor. the connecting belts must be relativity kept loose, the tighter you make the belts the more amps you will draw from the drive motor. find the happy medium. your first goal and I believe most important is to drive the flywheel up to a rpm close to that which the generator needs to run at in order to output the amps needed to power the drive motor and have excess left over to power other things. but you must accomplish this while drawing the least amount of amps possible from the drive motor. the lower the gear ratio between the drive motor pully and the first flywheel pully the less amps the drive motor will draw. always start with a small pully on the drive motor. then size your flywheel pully to achieve close to the rpms the generator needs to operate at. but there is another issue you must be aware of, the size of your flywheel matters too. why? because you want the drive motor to operate at its rated rpm where it runs the most efficient at. if the flywheel mass is too large the drive motor will draw more current to try and get the flywheel up to the rpm the drive motor wants to run at. in short the more massive the flywheel the more current the motor will draw. find the happy medium. and there is another problem, the drag the generator will put on the drive motor. this is where the flywheel comes in to assist. so you see really it's a fine tuning of all components. because there are many different generators and motors you will have to tune each system. you may have to trial and error with the components, and certainly gear ratios. if your generator is not outputting enough power to keep your drive motor going or giving you excess power then you have to increase the generators rpm, change gear ratios. if your flywheel mass has enough energy to keep up the increased gear ratio to the generator without causing the drive motor to exceed it's efficient running status then you may have it dialed in. if not you may have to increase or decrease the flywheel mass or adjust the gear ratio between the drive motor and the flywheel. like i said it's trial and error, you have to spin the generator fast enough to get the power needed for the drive motor plus excess for other things but at the same time the drive motor has to operate at an efficient load speed. it's all done by correct sizing and gearing. oh and adding capacitors helps too. And use a amp meter to do all your tuning. Put a amp meter on the drive motor so you can dial in the lowest amp draw while tuning the gear ratios. Remember to monitor the generator also because it always has to be putting out more than the drive motor uses. If it’s not then it needs to spin faster.
